Bedfordshire Festival of Music

The Webber String Players recently took part in a day of music making at the Annual Bedfordshire Festival of Music. All the string groups played in the Bedford Corn Exchange in the open non competitive group and enjoyed nearly an hour of practical support and encouragement from the adjudicator who joined in and played each part in turn.

Well done to Robert Beilby, Alex D'Silva, Isaac Newman and William Rogers also performed solos. It was an inspiring day for all the string players. Many thanks for all the support from parents and staff.

Year 11 at Poetry Live Conference, London

Year 11 students, accompanied by Mrs Margrave, Miss Chessum and Mr Roper, attended the annual Poetry Live Conference in Tottenham Court Road, London, on 4th March.

Their study of poetry for the forthcoming GCSE English Literature examination was burnished by hearing many of the set poets themselves reading their own poetry and discussing it, including the Poet Laureate Carol Anne Duffy, Oxford University Professor of Poetry Simon Armitage and other outstanding poets including John Agard, and Imtiaz Darker. Additionally, the AQA examination board`s Chief Subject Examiner presented unseen poetry with specific advice upon how to approach it in the examination room.

The day was a vital asset for all attendees who appreciated the quality of input and returned with enhanced insights and confidence in their material.

Webber Loves Books!

The students and staff at The Webber Independent School today donned their favourite book character costumes to celebrate World Book Day.

The children celebrated this event with peer to peer reading from 3-18 year olds sharing, dressing up and talking about their favourite books.

Principal, Mrs Hilary Marsden said  "We are very fortunate at Webber to be a community of bookworms!  World Book Day helps us celebrate this but our children read each day to their teachers and read every evening at home with their parents. We encourage all our learners 3-18 to join their local library and to develop the habit of reading for relaxation and pure enjoyment. A passion for books and reading is a life-long gift we aim to develop in all our children. World Book Day is great fun and the staff and students enjoy dressing up as their favourite book characters too!"
