Students Get Creative to Welcome Visitors onto the Neonatal Unit
Students at The Webber Independent School had pens and pencils at the ready earlier this year after being invited to design some new artwork for the neonatal unit at Milton Keynes University Hospital.
The Milton Keynes based school have been supporting the hospital’s neonatal unit over the past few years, with activities ranging from a beat the goalie competition to a Christmas raffle and Valentine’s sweets sale.
As part of this, the students were invited by Milton Keynes Hospital Charity to design artwork to brighten up the neonatal unit entrance doors – and they were only too pleased to accept!
Each year 390 babies are admitted onto the unit, which cares for babies born too early, too small or very ill – and so the artwork can offer a warm and friendly welcome for all its visitors.
The designs were submitted and a winner was chosen earlier this year and the doors have now been installed. The winning student, Lola, visited the unit today to see the finished doors and was really pleased with the finished result!
Neonatal unit manager Karen Rice, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to meet Lola today. This has been a very exciting project for us and has made a big difference to everyone that comes onto the unit. Thanks to The Webber Independent School for continuing to support us!”
Viktoria Molnar-Smith who is a teacher at The Webber Independent School, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support the neonatal unit in this unique way. This project has given the students some ownership over what they have achieved through their fundraising – which is fantastic.”
Corporate Fundraiser Jenny Howells at Milton Keynes Hospital Charity added: “It was a delight to meet Lola again after visiting the school while they worked on the project. The doors are amazing and everyone is really pleased!”
