Sea Horses

Occasionally, the simplest approach to a creative task works best. Here is a Year 8 student's creation of an extended metaphor through her own poem...

Sea Horses

As the storm moves closer,
The horses try in desperation to pull themselves up the beach,
Rising higher and moving a bit closer each time,
Only to be pulled back into the raging ocean.

By morning, when the storm has gone,
The horses’ exhaustion shows,
They manage a couple of steps,
Then the sea takes them back.

The horses never give in though,
Always trying to reach dry land.
Day or night,
They run up the beach, away from the sea,
Never to succeed.
