The Ballad of the Sad Café challenging impressions

Year 13 A2 English Literature follows the theme Literature of Love.  Your starting point for the course is Carson McCullers` novella The Ballad of the Sad Café.  It will give you a dramatic and unusually challenging impression of love ...  it has been called a 'grotesque trinity of human relationships ...'
Look at the artistic representation of the three characters (right).  They are misaligned with attentional gazes not focused upon one another.   Marvin Macy (left); Miss Amelia (standing); Cousin Limon the hunchback (right).  Now look at the medieval depiction of The Holy Trinity, by icon painter Andrei Rublev.  How do you feel that his impression of God (the Father, centre; the Son, left; the Holy Spirit, right) compares with the impression of the Sad Café?
